Choice: The Bridge from Victimhood to Sovereignty
Aug 26, 2025This is Part Three of my Colorado Mountain Pilgrimage series — a journey into grief, self-discovery, and awakening the medicine within. Each section is its own chapter. If you’re new here, start with Part One and Part Two to follow the story from the beginning.
The Cage I Built Myself
On that Colorado mountain trail, 12,000 feet up, the air was thin — but not as suffocating as the stories I had carried for years.
Stories that whispered:
“Your past defines you.”
“You don’t get a choice.”
“Life is happening to you, not for you.”
βοΈπ₯ Those words wrapped themselves around me like invisible chains. I had been carrying them for so long, I couldn’t tell where they ended and where I began.
→ But here’s the truth I learned somewhere between the dirt and the sky:
The bars were never real.
The Moment Everything Shifted
Step after step, switchback after switchback, my breath became my compass.
Every inhale — a prayer.
Every exhale — a release.
The mountain was my mirror, showing me what my breathwork practice had been teaching me for years:
ππ» That no matter how heavy the story feels,
no matter how convincing the old patterns seem,
we always have a choice.
The Rise of Sovereignty
It didn’t happen in one moment.
There was no lightning bolt, no single “aha” to rewrite everything.
It was in the quiet moments...the crunch of my boots on the trail π₯Ύ the stillness of the trees π² the whisper of my breath moving in and out —that I started to remember.
π I remembered the woman who thought she needed saving.
πͺ« The woman who handed her power to everyone but herself.
π The woman who shrank, who apologized for existing, who thought her voice didn’t matter.
And then the Universe handed me its wisdom "Never Abandon Yourself Again." π«
Rewriting My Identity
When I began to choose me, everything began to shift.
I chose to stop blaming.
To stop shrinking.
To stop handing my power away to stories that were never mine to hold.
I didn’t just rewrite my story.
I rewrote my identity.
Choice is the Medicine
β‘ Choice is the ultimate liberation.
β‘ Choice is the bridge from victimhood to sovereignty.
β‘ Choice is the medicine that alchemizes pain into power.
Every single one of us carries this medicine.
Yes — even you. π«΅π»
You are not broken.
You are not powerless.
You are not stuck.
You are your own creator.
Your own medicine.
When you choose differently π«Άπ» when you choose yourself πΉ your entire world begins to shift.
Your Invitation
If you’ve been waiting for permission to rise, this is it.
Every step forward is a reclamation.
Every breath is a prayer.
And every choice is the bridge back to you.
